Apple TV (Take 2), iPod touch, and iPhone: yep, more details here, too
Posted Jan 15th 2008 5:48PM by Ryan BlockFiled under: Cellphones, Features, HDTV, Home Entertainment iPhone / iPod touch updates The iPhone 1000 SMS limit is now lifted! Huzzah! You can now “pre-type” with two thumbs on v1.1.3 now (i.e. type, type, lift thumb, lift thumb — instead of the usual type, lift, type lift, which is a big slow-down). Thanks Dan L. Gmail IMAP is now officially supported! Thanks, Niall. iPod touch can still geolocate, but using Skyhook only (since, naturally, it doesn’t have cell tower access like the iPhone + Google). Apple TV updates The update adds AirTunes support for the Apple TV for streaming directly to the device. Poll: Did you pre-order a MacBook Air?
Posted Jan 15th 2008 4:30PM by Darren MurphFiled under: Laptops Curious minds need to know — despite the built-in RAM, the fixed battery, single (and soon to be overworked) USB port, lack of integrated 3G and the lofty $1,799 starting price point, did you still pull the trigger on a MacBook Air pre-order? We know, it is ridiculously thin, and it is ultra-light, so we’re wondering just how many of you ponied up the premium for all that sexiness. Drop your answer in the poll below, and feel free to add a couple pennies (or more, we won’t mind) in comments. Did you pre-order a MacBook Air?You bet! I’d pay anything for all that sexyNot yet, but I’m close to nailing that Submit buttonNot a chance! (Read the full post about ‘Poll: Did you pre-order a MacBook Air?’…)

USB Wireless Missile Launcher
Nope, we don’t make it a mission to make war freaks out of readers but perhaps you’ll find this USB Wireless Missile Launcher interesting. It doesn’t exactly have a purpose, but hey, it doesn’t have to have one, except perhaps to play either innocent games on your own or to play pranks on other people. The USB Wireless Missile Launcher features two antennae, one of which should be plugged to your computer and the other to the missile launcher, which would then serve as the signal receiver. The missile launcher could work up to 15-feet away from you. Features: Powered by USB with 4 feet of cable Wireless control up to 15 feet Multi-Channel I.D. HP facing lawsuit over exploding Presario, injured daughter
Posted Jan 15th 2008 11:02AM by Paul MillerFiled under: LaptopsA Little Rock, Arkansas man is taking HP to court over a faulty Compaq Presario that he says is to blame for burning his house down and causing serious injury to his daughter. The Wal-Mart-bought computer seemed perfectly fine until it suddenly burst into flames, catching his entire house on fire. His daughter had to jump out of a second story window to escape the fire, and sustained burns, physical injuries and “extreme mental anguish.” As if it wasn’t bad enough having a Presario in the first place. And the Apple Store is down.  Let the liveblogging begin
We are getting close now…the Apple Store is down now, a prerequisite to anything newsworthy coming out of Job’s jowls.  What will be outed today?  Hinted at?  And how about that “one more thing”?  I’ve no freaking idea, but I am as giddy as a schoolgirl.  So, I’ll leave it to the Apple experts over at Appletell to let me know.  You can check out their best guesses, er predictions here. Remember, you can also catch the live blog at Appletell as well.  We’ll talk about the big stuff here at Gadgetell, rest assured, but if you live and breath the Apple life, check out Appletell’s in depth coverage.  Throwing a Digg their way doesn’t hurt either. New iPod speakers: Ladybugs & Butterflies

New iPod speakers: Ladybugs & Butterflies
As much as I appreciate modern, sleek, silver-black-white, chrome-colored designs, I’m a sucker for items that can reflect the quirkiness of my own style. While I love my Bose iPod speaker system, they’re going to have to scoot over to share the shelf with one of Vestalife’s Ladybug or Butterfly iPod speaker systems. Both designs reflect elements of nature and exude playfulness that both younger and more mature consumers can appreciate alike. Ladybug features speaker “wings” that flip out to reveal iPod-based entertainment system Butterfly features four interchangable, colored front panels for changing moods, rooms, and future iPod color palettes. WYWH.mobi Gives You Postcards from the Cell Phone

WYWH.mobi Gives You Postcards from the Cell Phone
The picture to the left is simply a scan of a postcard that I received in the mail, and there are several things that make this picture special. The first thing is that it depicts a handsome blogger who visited CES 2008 in Las Vegas, and is holding up a genuine Las Vegas napkin as “proof that I was here”. The second thing is that the postcard is made from a picture from a cell phone. However, there was no work downloading the picture to a PC, or taking the time to print it out with a caption. All that it took was sending the picture from a cell phone to WYWH.mobi, and then the postcard was printed elsewhere and sent to its destination. I believe that this WYWH (acronym for Wish You Were Here) service is very useful. (Read the full post about ‘WYWH.mobi Gives You Postcards from the Cell Phone’…)

SATA-IO cranks up Power Over eSATA initiative, not a moment too soon

SATA-IO cranks up Power Over eSATA initiative, not a moment too soon
Posted Jan 15th 2008 10:25AM by Darren MurphFiled under: PeripheralsThe absence of built-in power in eSATA devices has left many scratching their heads in frustration — not to mention the zanily designed devices that have been created to cope — but it seems someone up there feels our pain. And by “up there,” we mean the SATA-IO, which has finally sparked up a Power Over eSATA initiative in order to “provide power to eSATA devices sans the need for a separate power connection.” Put simply, the group is hoping to design a specification where power can be passed directly through a Power Over eSATA cable, and yes, they are aiming to “maintain compatibility with the existing eSATA connector form factor.” Looking for a date of completion to circle? Goldeneye confirmed for XBLA, then put on hold indefinitely

Goldeneye confirmed for XBLA, then put on hold indefinitely
Back when I was younger an awesome move came out that introduced me to James Bond. That movie was Goldeneye, and sadly there hadn’t been a movie featuring 007 in over six years, so I was only vaguely familiar with the character at the time. While the movie was great, the corresponding video game was better. I doubt that there are few people who owned a Nintendo 64 that didn’t lose many nights of sleep trying to attain the coveted 007 Agent mode. Unfortunately, the game is over a decade old, and my Nintendo 64 has been out of commission for some time. I’ve thought about getting a new one so I can revisit classics such as this, however, it was recently confirmed that the game would be re-released on Xbox Live Arcade. Domino Thumb Drives Make Disk Space Fun

These domino themed thumb drives might only be a concept at this stage, but they are an enormously cool concept.  They are a typical thumb drive with a difference, the dots of the dominoes will tell you how much disk space you are using.  They are accurate to the nearest gigabyte (which is pretty inaccurate) and will give you a rough idea about how much space you have left to play with.
