weighted companion cube pc: where have you been? [casemod]
I’ve been keeping my eye on this Portal-inspired casemod project for a while now, watching and waiting for the builder to eventually finish his creation. And just like the cake, I guess that case was a lie. Then, out of the blue, I was checking out Gizmodo this morning when I came across this Weighted Companion Cube PC casemod that’s just so much better. Amazingly, builder Magnus Persson created this compact cube PC in just a week. The whole thing measures in at under 8×8×8 inches, fabricated from painted acrylic. Of course it has everything needed to play a round of Portal on board. It runs on a compact Via Epia EX1500G motherboard, and stays cool thanks to a CoolerMaster fan hidden on the bottom of the case. Bowers & Wilkins introduces Liberty wireless speaker system
Posted Jan 21st 2008 7:49AM by Darren MurphFiled under: Home Entertainment Apparently, Bowers & Wilkins didn’t want the whole world talking at once about its forthcoming Liberty at CES, but regardless, the self-proclaimed “wireless entertainment system” is all out in the open now. Slated to land this fall for a currently undisclosed price, the setup will consist of two XTW 8 towers, a pair of XTW 2 bookshelf units, an XTW Center channel and a PVW 1 subwoofer. Additionally, you’ll find integrated class-D amplifiers and a rather sexy (albeit elusive) control unit, and if that wasn’t enough, it’s also the “first wireless system” capable of transmitting eight channels — 5.1 for one room and two extra channels for remote zones. Intelligent dashboard could shut off distractions to improve reaction times
Posted Jan 21st 2008 7:21AM by Darren MurphFiled under: Transportation We’ve already seen whips that brake for us, steer for us and wheel us into that last remaining spot on 5th Avenue without marring someone’s BMW, so it follows logic that we’d see vehicles that peer into our minds, too. Research done by a crew at the Technical University of Berlin has shown that a “smart dashboard” could one day deactivate distractions within the vehicle in order to improve driver response if things simply get too hectic. Faux Digital Message Tape Looks Interesting, Time Consuming
For the latest info on the coolest gadgets, emerging technology and wired madness, subscribe to our full news feed or have it delivered to your inbox. Always free. Always unique. Thanks for visiting! Normally faux anything rubs me the wrong way but this faux-digital message tape looks very interesting indeed.  You write messages by blacking out white sections on the tape.  It could take a while to put together a message of any length; but it does make a nice alternative to temporary signs.  I don’t think this thing has any genuine home applications, but for mischief or business related activities, it truly rocks. Filed under: Digital Cameras, Displays, HDTV, Home Entertainment, Household, Portable Audio, Portable VideoAs Hitachi continues to streamline operations, we get word that it is pulling out of the consumer electronics and whitegoods market in Australia. Announced over the weekend, Hitachi will no longer sell their appliances or flat-panel TVs, camcorders, and other CE-class goods in the land down under. ACs, industrial, and electronic goods will still be available. The move brings along 40 job cuts from its Sydney HQ. Hitachi claims that the Australian market is just too small and too competitive to warrant the effort. (Read the full post about ‘Hitachi leaves Oz: goodbye yellow brick road’…)
