Windows 7’s estimated arrival: 2010/2011

Windows 7’s estimated arrival: 2010/2011
We recently saw some leaked footage of the upcoming Windows 7. Along with the footage came the rumor that it’s release was being pushed up and could be expected to hit stores sometime in 2009. Well, it turns out that was not accurate. According to an email that WinVistaClub received from Microsoft: Q. What is the expected timeline for the availability of Windows 7? A. We are currently in the planning stages for Windows 7 and expect it will take approximately 3 years to develop. The specific release date will be determined once the company meets its quality bar for release. That seems to answer that, we will just have to learn to like Vista or learn to use other alternatives. (Read the full post about ‘Windows 7’s estimated arrival: 2010/2011′…)

UPDATE: Gmail IMAP fixed for Windows Mobile

UPDATE: Gmail IMAP fixed for Windows Mobile
Google quietly listed this page on their site, which I don’t recall seeing before.  After Gadgetell commenter “Tony” claimed he got IMAP and Gmail to play friendly-like, I gave Gmail IMAP a try on my Windows Mobile 6 phone and whammo: it works.  All the text is there, no matter the email format.  Sounds like Google got on task and solved the issue. Previously, IMAP did not play well -at least Gmail’s IMAP- with Windows Mobile phone leaving the body of emails blank in some cases.  Frustrating problem for folks that moved to Gmail for its simplicity. While no official word from Google, there is still a disclaimer “Please note that emails downloaded in HTML format may not be displayed in your Windows Mobile client. Microphone Lamp looks plain weird

Microphone Lamp looks plain weird
I suppose you’ve gotta be some sort of audio nut to pick up this Microphone Lamp and hang it in your house. Chances are, most women won’t allow such an atrocious looking thing to be hung from their ceiling (that’s right made, you don’t wear the pants around the home), so this would probably be the domain of single folks. I wouldn’t fork out a hefty $236 for something like this though, as that kind of dough can net me many pretty things from Ikea. Robovie Designed To Help Those Lost in a Crowd

Robovie Designed To Help Those Lost in a Crowd
Okay, if this picture doesn’t freak you out, then you are obviously too used to robots. Honestly, this is looks like a brand of Terminator robot that John Conner’s band of human rebels would open fire at. That, or the last thing you would see before the machines put you in the Matrix for the rest of your artificial life. Yet the Robovie is a project under development by the Advance Telecommunications Research Instituted (ATR) in Japan, and it has the ability to spot people in a crowd who are lost. It is then programmed to go up to them, and give them directions to their location. The Robovie uses 16 cameras, six laser-range finders, and nine RFID tag readers in order to watch 20 people at a time. (Read the full post about ‘Robovie Designed To Help Those Lost in a Crowd’…)

Buffalo Keyboard Rocks a Skype Phone

Buffalo Keyboard Rocks a Skype Phone
For the latest info on the coolest gadgets, emerging technology and wired madness, subscribe to our full news feed or have it delivered to your inbox. Always free. Always unique. Thanks for visiting! I like nice keyboards and I like Skype phones, but I don’t like the two of them together. Buffalo has decided that the two technologies do belong together and has created an unconvincing mash up to prove their point. The keyboard looks quite nice with the low profile laptop style keys that are becoming popular on high end keyboards these days. The wired Skype phone is unfortunately placed on the wrong side of the keyboard. I can see it getting in the way of serious gaming action for the majority of people that are right handed. Official Rock Band premium microphone turns up, still can’t save embarrassment
Posted Jan 28th 2008 12:59PM by Donald MelansonFiled under: Gaming, Peripherals This one sure hasn’t generated much, if any, fanfare, but it looks like those that take their Rock Band wailing (a little too) seriously can now get their hands on a new and improved (and official) microphone. According to the appropriately-named Rocker74 of the ScoreHero forums, you’ll have to drop a hefty $50 to your hands on it, but for that you’ll apparently get a microphone that is heavier and “definitely” higher quality than the standard issue mic. Stylophone Original makes its rounds

Stylophone Original makes its rounds
If you have an ear for music and want to drive those living under the same roof with you nuts, then the Stylophone Original certainly sounds like a very viable idea. Well, basically, this bizarre little battery-operated instrument is a box packed with transistors, resistors, diodes and other old-school electronic bits and bobs. The idea is to press the integral stylus against the various metal keys in order to close the circuit and emit a peculiar but unique squeal. This re-issued version is just the same as the original except you can now control the volume (phew!) and play along to your MP3 tracks (bizarre). There are even a couple of all-new Stylophone sounds and a vibrato knob. (Read the full post about ‘Stylophone Original makes its rounds’…)

Skyfire browser gets Windows Mobile users fired up
If you have a Windows Mobile smartphone and believe the internet on it could be lots better, you are not alone.  Skyfire is launching their private beta shortly and it looks extremely promising.  Flash support is native and Skyfire supports Windows Mobile 5 and 6.  Symbian support looks to be just over the horizon as well.  Users in the US can sign up for the private beta now. Skyfire says their browser is comparable to PC browsing speeds and offer the “real web” on your Windows Mobile phones.  Zooming, thumbnailing and smart resizing of the page to fit your screen look to be included.  It looks to be just what YouTube, MySpace and other flash-heavy sites need to get you watch more when you are on the go.  All this for free.
