Pentagon’s “Cyber Storm” war game simulates blogger leaks, train disorder — wait, blogger leaks?
Posted Jan 31st 2008 7:03PM by Nilay PatelFiled under: Misc. gadgetsYou’ve got to give the Pentagon credit for imagining every possible threat scenario in its latest wargame, dubbed “Cyber Storm,” but the plotline this time around is pretty wild. Starting with an electronic attack on the Port Authority of New Jersey, major new networks and bloggers spread “believable but misleading” information without revealing their sources — all while hundred of people on the “no-fly” list stream into airports, DC’s Metro trains shut down, air traffic control towers in Philly and Chicago are disrupted, and mysterious liquids are found on the tube in London. Kingston joins the 16GB SDHC party
Posted Jan 31st 2008 3:46PM by Nilay PatelFiled under: Storage The memory card announcements at PMA continue — Kingston has just announced its first 16GB SDHC card. Sure, we’re happy for them, but at $231, it’s more expensive than SanDisk’s $179 16GB card — which comes with a USB 2.0 reader — and it’s certainly not as impressive as SanDisk’s new 32GB card. Also, your hair is frizzy and you look fat. But have fun at the party!Tags: wi-fi, gadgets, cool gear, digital (Read the full post about ‘Kingston joins the 16GB SDHC party’…)

SanDisk pushes SDHC to 32GB
Posted Jan 31st 2008 12:38PM by Nilay PatelFiled under: Storage The bits, they just keep coming — now that 16GB SDHC cards are old hat, SanDisk’s gone and upped the ante with these new 32GB cards. That’s the new record, but you won’t be able to get your hands on one until April, when they ship for $349. A 16GB version and a new 8GB Ultra II SDHC Plus with flip-out USB connecter will also hit in March for $179 and $99, respectively — but you know you want the big’un, don’t lie.Tags: gadgets, tech, players, TV (Read the full post about ‘SanDisk pushes SDHC to 32GB’…)

Bath-O-Matic is Bather’s Dream Come True

Today, I found out that someone took something from my dreams and made it into reality. You see, I always hoped to have a bathtub that is completely automated. I suppose it is kind of a pathetic dream that I have, but Bath-O-Matic has made it a reality. If I want the temperature of the water to be a certain amount of degrees, I can have it without having to fiddle around with Hot and Cold knobs. Also, I can start the water and leave the room without ever worrying about overflow. These are just a few of the features of the Bath-O-Matic. Unique Automation, the company that makes this product/service, has exceeded my expectations and added even more cool features. (Read the full post about ‘Bath-O-Matic is Bather’s Dream Come True’…)

Cyberpyrot’s Xbox 360 voice recognition controller mod
Posted Jan 31st 2008 11:56AM by Paul MillerFiled under: Gaming, Peripherals Usually we spot console modders adding a few LEDs to their boxen, squeezing in some extra memory or perhaps even changing a form factor altogether, but it’s rare to see these hackers actually hack in some original functionality. Cyberpyrot over at Acid Mods is taking this whole modding business to a whole new level with his voice recognition controller for the Xbox 360, which involves some heavy hacking and a bit of hardware kit wizardry to let you control teh Halos with merely the silky smooth sound of your voice. Asus announces E-TV, E-DT, E-Monitor
Asus will be adding to the lineup of Eee products, no longer will it just be limited to the much talked about ultra-portable Eee PC laptop. Asus will begin offering LCD TV’s, a desktop PC and all-in-one style computer similar to the iMac and XPS One. The LCD TV line is going to enter the larger than 42-inch market and is expected to retail for no higher than $200 more than competing brands. They will “integrate the Linux-based PC functionality of other Eee PC products,” and are looking for a September launch. The desktop PC will be the E-DT and will initially feature an Intel Celeron processor with later models to use Intel’s Shelton’08 platform with Diamondville processors and the 945GC chipset. Lavaratory Navigator

Lavaratory Navigator

I suppose wives who are fed up with their husbands for having a permanently malfunctioning aiming system will be thankful for the Lavaratory Navigator, or LavNav for short. The LavNav turns on when you approach in the dark, and turns off after you leave, shining with gentle yet sufficient light where you need it, when you need it. The Lav Nav makes the toilet a lot safer and easier to use at night without irritating your partner. Bathroom lights can be painfully bright in the middle of the night. So why switch them on? No idea on how much the LavNav costs though. (Read the full post about ‘Lavaratory Navigator’…)

Hands-on with the Nikon D60 DSLR
Posted Jan 31st 2008 2:22AM by Steven KimFiled under: Digital Cameras It seems like big boys Nikon and Canon DSLRs have been slugging it out since, well, before the “D” was even a thought. This year, it’s a fight over the entry-level end of the DSLR market with the Nikon’s D60 facing off against Canon’s EOS Rebel XSi. On paper at least, Nikon’s offering is little changed from from the D40x: 10.2-megapixel CCD, 3-fps shooting, sensor dust reduction, and of course, Eye-Fi enhancements. pac-man blocks light up your life
The last time I saw such a brilliant blending of Pac-Mania and illumination was the amazing Pac-Man Christmas tree that showed up on the streets of Madrid over the holidays. Now you can have your own personal Pac & Pals light show thanks to these fun colored light blocks. Designed by French lighting company Remake Design, these clever interlocking light blocks now come in Pac-Man inspired styles, including colored ghosts, dots, and of course the pie-shaped yellow guy we all know and love so much. The company offers a variety of snap-together colored lighting fixtures which can be combined to form unique pixel-like structures in any space. Hands-on with the Pentax K20D DSLR

Hands-on with the Pentax K20D DSLR
Posted Jan 31st 2008 1:58AM by Steven KimFiled under: Digital Cameras Lookee here, the K20D, Pentax’s flagship entry in the DSLR race and replacement for the K10D. Good looking stuff here, with the requisite step up to a proper command dial in place of buttons on the back of that dust-proof (not just resistant) and weather-resistant body. But the beauty’s more than skin deep — check out the 14.6-megapixel CMOS sensor, Live View 2.7-inch LCD and ISO sensitivity that peaks out at 3,200 (thanks, CMOS!).
