Gadgetell Interview Exclusive: Larry Smith, COO ARCHOS on ARCHOSTV+

Gadgetell Interview Exclusive: Larry Smith, COO ARCHOS on ARCHOSTV+
At CES I got a chance to sit down with Larry Smith, COO ARCHOS, and talk about his ARCHOS TV+.  To say he was passionate about this device would be a gross understatement; he was downright giddy about it.  Since then, Apple has re-intro’d their Apple TV so I thought I’d get Larry’s response to it.  In short, he still isn’t impressed. Why?  Well the biggest difference is TV+s ability to be your DVR.  Oh yeah, and a WiFi DVR.  That combination seems to me like a knock out punch, but throw in more memory for the price Apple is charging and you’ve got a compelling value proposition.  Here is is the interview: Gadgetell:  In your view, how does Apple’s TV’s Take 2 size up to your TV +? Jobo announces Photo GPS camera add-on (again)
Posted Feb 1st 2008 4:53PM by Donald MelansonFiled under: Digital Cameras, GPS We haven’t heard much about Jobo’s Photo GPS camera add-on since it was announced around the time of last year’s PMA show, and it now looks like that’s been for good reason, as the company’s apparently decided to have another go at this whole “product launch” thing at this year’s PMA. From the looks of it, however, not much has changed with the device itself in the ensuing months, with it still promising to attach to your camera’s flash hot shoe and record GPS information as you shoot, and squeeze all that data into your images’ EXIF metadata (or XML file in the case of RAW images) when you sync it up. Real Fireplace Illuminational Heater

Real Fireplace Illuminational Heater

Considering how cold the winter is where I live, I could certainly use the Real Fireplace Illuminational Heater right now. The Real Fireplace Illuminational Heater was developed in Japan, and I am told that they have some pretty cold winters. In fact, many apartment dwellings in Japan are not well insulated and do not have fireplaces. It appears that this device solves both of those dilemmas. You can clearly see how this device creates a realistic flatscreen display of a fireplace. It certainly is much better than those fake fireplaces with the rotating red and yellow light underneath some fake plastic “ashes”. (Read the full post about ‘Real Fireplace Illuminational Heater’…)

iPods won’t crash your pacemaker says the FDA
Posted Feb 1st 2008 1:49PM by Joshua Topolsky It turns out that 17-year-olds probably aren’t that good at studying electrical interference — and its effect on pacemakers — created by iPods. Unlike the data presented to the Heart Rhythm Society last year by a high-school student, which demonstrated the music player’s ability to interfere with heart-regulating devices, the FDA now says that the gadgets are completely safe for use. Researchers measured magnetic fields produced by four different models of Apple’s ubiquitous device, and found no reason why your grandmother can’t keep jamming to her South of Heaven reissue. Said FDA researcher Howard Bassen, “Based on the observations of our in-vitro study we concl (Read the full post about ‘iPods won’t crash your pacemaker says the FDA’…)

Gadgetell Rant: MicroHoo? Google giggles

Gadgetell Rant: MicroHoo? Google giggles
Microsoft’s offer of $44.6 Billion for Yahoo boggles the mind and soul.  MicroHoo?  Kicking the “WTF”s around the Gadgetell newsroom, we all are scratching our heads over it.  Has Microsoft just offered to buy a sinking Titanic?  For what: deck chairs and movie rights? Yahoo’s stock over that last year reads like a flying bird who suddenly decides to take a nap: a pretty steady decline.  I am all for the buy-low/sell-high mantra of Wall Street, but this position assumes Yahoo will climb again.  What has Yahoo got that us casual observers are missing in figuring that rise isn’t going to happen? Where in the world is the Xbox 360 Elite?

Where in the world is the Xbox 360 Elite?
Posted Feb 1st 2008 10:48AM by Joshua TopolskyFiled under: Gaming According to tipsters, a little bird, and our crack team of cybernetically-enhanced super-searchers, the Xbox 360 Elite is suddenly very hard to come by. From what we can tell, the console configuration is missing from the stockrooms of a number of shops, both online and off, making it rather difficult for new buyers to begin wasting their life playing Bioshock with the top of the line 360.
