Written by admin on Saturday, February 9th, 2008 in Gadgets.

My MP3 Player is Broken-hearted
…and quite literally at that too. Check out this newest broken-heart MP3 released especially for the upcoming season of hearts. Newman is releasing this funny little thing in China for Valentine’s. This is one of those very, very few times I wish I lived in the country. That is, if this mp3 player actually breaks into two. All we know for now is that this device uses the Ali M5667 chipset, allowing it to play both MP3 and WAV formats. via Tags: game, design, Gadget, gadgetry (Read the full post about ‘My MP3 Player is Broken-hearted’…)

USB Phonebook Flash Drive
The worst part of losing a cellphone, is also losing all the contacts saved on the SIM card. To solve that situation, you must do back-ups often, and using the USB Phonebook Flash Drive is one of the options. The working mode is very simple: connect the USB Phonebook to the cellphone, and press a button to save all the data of the phone memory + SIM card, into the flash drive. After the transfer is done, just connect the Phonebook to the USB port of your computer/laptop, and review all your contacts, or convert them to a different format. The USB Phonebook Flash Drive costs $20,50 and there are different versions that work with various cellphone models, such as Nokia 7250i, Sony Ericsson K700i, Samsung E800, and many others. Hamburger lunch box

Hamburger lunch box
I still have my old Strawberry Shortcake and Care Bears metal lunch boxes somewhere at my parents’ house. I’ve thought about tracking them down before, as they’d probably be rather retro chic these days, but now I think I’ll keep them where they are. They’d have nothing on this multi-level hamburger-shaped lunch box. Look at it. Not only is it microwaveable and in the shape of a hamburger, but it’s got three compartments and comes with a fork and spoon! My old lunch boxes only came with a thermos and are probably rusted shut by now. Available for $9.99 from Shop Happy Trails. Via Nerd Approved. (Read the full post about ‘Hamburger lunch box’…)

Earthlink looking to sell off their citywide Wi-Fi business
Earthlink has begun to shop their citywide Wi-Fi business around, but until now no buyers have stepped forward. The business that has been scaled back drastically since the original plan is now officially on the auction block, but no mention pricing has been noted. The citywide Wi-Fi plans seem to have just not taken off, we first heard of Earthlink considering selling this off back in last November. While a larger scale of these citywide plans seem to have not worked well for the larger cities such as San Francisco, it may still have some good traction with smaller cities or smaller projects. Smartphone growth continues to rise
Canalys have released some interesting research into sales of smartphones during the fourth quarter of 2007. Nokia remains at the top with 52.9% of the market, followed by Blackberry with 11.4% and then a new entry in the top 3 edging out Motorola is the iphone with 6.5% of the worldwide market. 2007 was a good year for the smartphone with 115 million shipped which equates to a 60% increase. The largest region by sales is Asia Pacific, where Nokia dominates with 50%, whereas in the USA where Nokia is traditionally weaker the iPhone had an impressive 28% market share. The iPhone had a strong showing across Europe considering it was only released in the 4th quarter, but the Nokia remains domi (Read the full post about ‘Smartphone growth continues to rise’…)

Samsung sued for defective Blu-ray players
Posted Feb 9th 2008 10:57AM by Darren MurphFiled under: HDTV, Home Entertainment We’ll be straight with you — we aren’t surprised one iota by this one. For those keeping tabs, Samsung’s slate of Blu-ray players have been plagued with issues essentially from day one, and while it has released a flurry of firmware updates over the years in an attempt to mend a variety of incompatibility issues, even its recent BD-UP5000 hybrid player is being axed early on after giving owners all sorts of fits. Apparently, one particular buyer isn’t taking things lying down, and has decided to file suit against the mega-corp alleging that it has sold “defective Blu-ray players” to consumers. Nokia trial turns N95s into traffic sensing tools
Posted Feb 9th 2008 2:20AM by Darren MurphFiled under: Cellphones, GPS, TransportationSure, we’ve seen cellphones intermingle with traffic data before, but Nokia’s looking to up the ante in a big way by utilizing a large network of GPS-enabled handsets to actually predict traffic patterns and help you avoid congestion before you even leave for that afternoon appointment. In a recent trial involving 100 volunteer drivers (and an equal amount of N95s), the handset maker teamed up with UC Berkeley to test the effectiveness of using a device most people already own (read: cellphones) to beam out traffic data rather than installing permanent sensors in roadways. DLO’s iPhone-shielded Portable Speakers
Posted Feb 9th 2008 7:55AM by Paul MillerFiled under: Home Entertainment, Portable Audio Recognize this sound? “Blip da da blip da da blip da da blip da da bliiiiiiiip.” If you answered yes to any of the preceding questions, you may own an iPhone. The little bugger wreaks havoc on your average unsuspecting, unshielded desktop speaker — and most iPod docks, as it turns out — emitting audible blasts of interference from up to three or four feet away. Luckily, the DLO Portable Speakers for iphone don’t have that problem, since they’re shielded from TDMA interference. You can power ‘em off of AAA batteries or an AC adapter, and since they plug into the iPhone’s headphone jack, you can use plenty of other audio sources.
