Innovation First intros VEX RCR Mini, WiFi control system
Posted Feb 12th 2008 11:48AM by Donald MelansonFiled under: Robots, Wireless Innovation First sure looks to be keeping up a steady pace with its VEX robotics system, with the company now following up its recently released ROBOTC programming kit with its new VEX RCR Mini kit and a new WiFi control system. The former, as you’ve no doubt surmised, is a smaller and less expensive version of Innovation’s standard VEX system, which it thinks will be particularly appealing to students from elementary school on up. HD DVD camp issues sad little response to Netflix, Best Buy snubs
Posted Feb 12th 2008 10:52AM by Evan BlassFiled under: HDTV, Home Entertainment Out of the many jobs in today’s multi-billion dollar consumer electronics industry, the one we’d probably want least right now is writer of press releases for the HD DVD Promotional Group. After each major defection, these poor folks have to whip up a positive-sounding response to what everyone knows is very bad news — but after yesterday’s one-two punches by Netflix and Best Buy, even these paid cheerleaders are having trouble finding the right spin. Here’s what they had to say, as reported by CNET: “We have long held the belief that HD DVD is the best format for consumers based on quality and value, and with more than 1 million HD DVD players on the market, it’s unfortunate to see Netflix make the decision to only stock Blu-ray titles going forward. Pooch-powered trike

Pooch-powered trike

Fancy this! A dog-powered recumbent trike from Mark Schuette, the very same person who delivered the dog-powered scooter. This unique trike uses the same “dog behind a steering wheel” configuration that provides the extra stability offered by a sit-down trike design. In addition, you get double the steering and braking power of a scooter. While the original scooter design allows a human to ride standing up while the dog is harnessed into a frame, being subject to steering and braking. Since the scooter forces the rider to remain standing upright while keeping the entire setup balanced, it certainly isn’t too appealing to certain user groups such as the elderly and physically handicapped. Breaking News: Apple store downing brings “major upgrade”
To the surprise and gasps of many - possibly few- the Apple Store went offline this morning for an update: the release of Aperture 2.  Hailed by Apple as a “major upgrade” to its photo-editing and management software, with a new price of $199 and over 100 new features, the release is sure to turn some heads.  Upgrades are available for $99. Apple is quick to point out the streamlined UI makes working with photos much easier and the release makes the point that if many photo professionals are using it, so should you. Interestingly, the press release makes no mention of Adobe’s PhotoShop. (Read the full post about ‘Breaking News: Apple store downing brings “major upgrade”’…)

Stupid Product of the Week, USB Aroma Radio + Speaker
For the latest info on the coolest gadgets, emerging technology and wired madness, subscribe to our full news feed or have it delivered to your inbox. Always free. Always unique. Thanks for visiting! The week is still young, but I think it is a fair bet that the USB Aroma Radio is going to be the stupidest thing that I come across. Where shall I begin, it is a radio with a USB power source. I get some kickass radio over the Internet, I don’t need a radio that is only going to play me the latest J-Pop sensations. The stupidity does not stop there. It is, unfortunately, just getting started, because the USB Aroma Radio is a mashup of stupid technologies (of which the USB Radio is about the smartest part).
