Cobra adds Bluetooth to CB radio, truckers rejoice
Posted Feb 20th 2008 7:58PM by Darren MurphFiled under: Misc. gadgets, Wireless Maybe it’s just us, but the integration of Bluetooth into a CB radio is long, long overdue. Thankfully, Cobra is stepping up to the plate and introducing the 29 LTD BT, which will go down as its first ever CB radio to include integrated BT technology. Essentially, it allows users to accept and terminate calls with a simple button press on the radio itself, and also enables handsfree conversations — undoubtedly littered with 10-4s and good buddies — via the noise canceling microphone and five-watt speaker. Granted, the transmission was a touch fuzzy, but we heard it’ll be available at travel centers and dealers this summer for $189.95. Sony’s new E-series Walkman lineup

Sony’s new E-series Walkman lineup
Sony has always been the trendsetter with personal audio devices. If your remember back to the 80’s, then you will remember they pioneered the first portable cassette Walkman. Now, their latest range, the NW-E series looks to be healthy competition for the ipod shuffle and Creative Zen Stone Plus. It comes in a range of colors, dare I say more appealing than the Shuffle, and in 1GB, 2GB and 4GB models. It also has more features than the Shuffle, ATRAC/MP3/WMA/AAC files are all compatible and it has a built-in FM radio tuner. It looks to be a hip device, but the price tag of around $149 (4GB) may deter some. Via [Engadget] Keep up with the latest gadget goodness! Microsoft just announed XNA Studio developers will be able to use the Zune as a multiplayer wireless mobile gaming platform. Details are sparse at this point, but it looks like it’s going to be second gen Zunes only, since it was specifically mentioned that it’d take advantage of the touchpad controls. We’ll let you know more as we get it. (Read the full post about ‘Microsoft announces games for Zune via XNA Studio’…)

Svelte 3G phone from LG

We all know that Samsung is pretty much the champion when it comes to slim handsets, thanks to the massive marketing push of its Ultra II line of cell phones. LG isn’t too far behind though, having rolled out a 13.3mm thin 3G handset known as the LG-KH1800. Alternatively, you don’t have to call it by the long model number since it can be better remembered as the ‘Orange color phone’ whenever you’re in Korea, thanks to its enhanced orange colored keypad. Features include SMS service support, telephone directory, alarm setting, a multitasking button, 3G WCDMA automatic roaming service, MP3 playback, text viewer, a camera and an electronic dictionary just in case you come up short on words during a debate. Apple files patent for multitouch “chords”

Apple files patent for multitouch “chords”

I love looking over patent applications. I’m not the kind of geek that constantly sifts through every filing at the FCC, but every now and then someone catches a new filing that it worth looking at. The latest is an application from Apple which describes a possible new multitouch trackpad that utilizes chords. When I read the word “chords” I immediately thought of playing the guitar, which when I looked at the rest of the application, made complete sense. Essentially, you could program the trackpad to respond to various gestures with a combination of your four fingers (no thumb). You could then set each gesture to activate a different command. US to shoot down failed satellite at 10:30pm ET tonight
Posted Feb 20th 2008 8:11AM by Thomas RickerFiled under: Misc. gadgets var Oh boy, tonight’s the night. According to CNN sources, the US Navy plans to shoot down that failed satellite at 2230 ET from a ship west of Hawaii. The idea is to get a shot off as early as possible in case a second or third attempt is required. The $10 million missile fired from the USS Lake Erie will not carry a warhead. Instead, the 22,000mph impact on the school-bus sized satellite combined with the exploding hydrazine fuel tank should blast the satellite into bite-sized chunks expected to burn up in the atmosphere. Unfortunately, the timing of the launch — 5:30pm locally — means that our naked eyes won’t likely be treated to much of a show. Vigor’s Colossus gets you close to Skulltrail, bankruptcy
Posted Feb 20th 2008 8:03AM by Darren MurphFiled under: Desktops We’re not going to set this one up with some creepy bedtime story like Vigor does on its own website, but seriously, this beast is kind of scary. The aptly-dubbed Colossus houses Intel’s Skulltrail platform along with two Core 2 Extreme QX9775 quad-core processors, and that’s just the beginning. You’ll also find a menacing (albeit somewhat unsightly) chassis, a 1,000-watt PSU, 4GB of DDR2 RAM, twin 74GB Raptor hard drives, 2TB of storage on a pair of RAIDed SATA HDDs, dual 512MB GeForce 8800 GTS Xtremes, a dual-layer DVD burner (skimp much?) and a 3.5-inch floppy drive for loading up your tax template from 1998.
