Fujitsu launches 500GB 2.5-inch hard drive
To answer the increasing demand for high-volume data storage, Fujitsu Limited has unveiled its new series of MHZ2 BT 2.5-inch hard disk drives with storage capacity of 500 gigabytes. The company claims MHZ2 BT is also an environmentally friendly product and a power-efficient hard disk drive since it only consumes 1.8 W of power to execute read and write operations. It is intended for use in PCs, set top boxes, digital video recorders (DVR) and external hard drive applications. Moreover, this high-capacity hard disk drive supports Serial ATA 3.0 Gb/s interface to facilitate high-speed data transfer of about 300MB per second without interference or noise. CFast CompactFlash cards now said to be coming in “18 to 24 months”
Posted Feb 25th 2008 11:40AM by Donald MelansonFiled under: Digital Cameras, Storage We’ve already heard a little bit about about the new and improved CFast CompactFlash card standard developed by the CompactFlash Association, but it looks like things are now starting to firm up, including word as to when the cards might actually be available. As CNET’s Underexposed blog reports, a Lexar rep says he “predicts” that the cards should start showing up in “18 to 24 months,” and that companies will “want to start working on prototype samples as soon as the specification is finalized.” The big advantage to the cards, as we’ve mentioned, is their use of an SATA interface, which not only boosts the transfer rate to a speedy 375MB/sec but, of course, also makes them incompatible with current CompactFlash-based cameras. Humanscale’s eight-monitor mount is huge. Seriously.
Posted Feb 25th 2008 2:13PM by Joshua TopolskyFiled under: Displays Sometimes one display isn’t enough. Sometimes you need two. Sometimes you need eight. When you need eight, you’ll probably want to contact the folks over at Humanscale — an ironically named company that creates mounts that are decidedly inhuman. Take the Paramount Parabolic Multi-Monitor Display, for instance: a rack for your bank of eight monitors that’s a guaranteed must-have for your elaborate array of “stalking” screens in the basement of your creepy estate. LG Voyager: I touched, I texted, I loved

LG Voyager: I touched, I texted, I loved

I discussed LG Voyager before, and I had a chance to try it out as a user last weekend. What I found was the LG Voyager could easily be my next cell phone. The first thing you should know about the LG Voyager is that it is the first phone on the market with a touchscreen and QWERTY keyboard. The touchscreen works just like the iphone, but the Voyager has a vibrating touch system so the user has some tactile feedback. The phone then opens for a second screen with the QWERTY keyboard. This comes in handy when you surf the Internet with the HTML browser, and you can even flip it to the touchscreen for some net-surfing with just your finger. Apple Tuesday: super special MacBook Pro, iPhone SDK… or nothing at all?
Posted Feb 25th 2008 11:01AM by Joshua TopolskyFiled under: Misc. gadgets As you may or may not know, Apple has made some sort of announcement — however minor — every Tuesday since the beginning of 2008. The internet is currently stacked floor-to-ceiling with guesses of what this last Tuesday in February will bring. Many are speculating that it’s going to be the often-discussed, never-seen MacBook Pro update, while others are certain that this will be the day old Jobsy unveils iphone’s supposedly-delayed SDK to the world. Still there are those who believe this Tuesday will see the launch of the Apple Robot Army, while many think that we’re going to finally get a look at that iShrink shrink ray that’s been long-rumored. Nokia E51 Review - MobileBurn

Nokia E51 Review - MobileBurn
MobileBurn reviews the Nokia E51 and writes, “…the Nokia E51 includes a 2.0MP camera, which is pretty much the baseline for any device these days. While the camera is usable, it produces quite a harsh green hue over images, and a large amount of noise in anything but perfect outdoor lighting conditions. I didn’t expect much on the imaging front from a business device, but Nokia really could have put a little more effort into the camera. Despite these shortcomings, there is a surprising amount of tweakable options supported in the camera user interface. Features include a night mode, sequence shooting mode, a self timer, four white balance settings, and four color tone settings. (Read the full post about ‘Nokia E51 Review - MobileBurn’…)

Sony KDL40D3500 Review

Sony KDL40D3500 Review
Sony has recently upgraded their D3000 with the new Bravia D3500 series which includes a number of upgrades and enhancements over the previous models, brining the overall spec up to a higher end. The Sony KDL40D3500 is a middle range 40-inch LCD HDTV with a full HD 1080p screen for the highest HD format, offering some great features at a very reasonable price. The Sony KDL40D3500 might still cost more than some other manufacturers, but they might not be so well equipped as the KDL-40D3500. The KDL40D3500 provides a great high to middle range 40-inch full HD HDTV at around £750 ($1500), much cheaper than their KDL40W3000. (Read the full post about ‘Sony KDL40D3500 Review’…)

Solar-powered dragonfly throws ball back in WowWee’s court
Posted Feb 25th 2008 7:55AM by Darren MurphFiled under: Robots Make no mistake, our hearts were fluttering when we finally witnessed WowWee’s FlyTech Dragonfly buzzing about, but there’s just something about this creature that really wins us over. Designed and constructed by James G. Watt, this robotic insect reportedly includes a number of solar cells which provide enough power in sunlight to make the critter’s wings flap. USB Wireless Finger Mouse

USB Wireless Finger Mouse
We’ve seen the Logisys Optical Finger Mouse, an ergonomic mouse that takes up no space except on your index finger, and is supposed to free you from moving your hand around unnecessarily as you switch from mouse operating to keyboard. The button is controlled with your thumb. I’m not sure how popular these are, but now usb.brando.com.hk, seller of all things USB, carries another finger mouse model, which appears to be a bit bigger than the Logisys model (and priced higher, at $38 - the Logisys model is just $19, and appears to be sold by usb.brando.com.hk also). My question is: Will this exacerbate the blackberry Thumb problem I already have and spread it to my index finger? (Read the full post about ‘USB Wireless Finger Mouse’…)

Samsung BlackJack II (i617) Review - PC World
PC World reviews the Samsung BlackJack II (i617) and writes, “Samsung took almost everything about the first BlackJack and turned it up a notch, making a good PDA phone a little better. Though the BlackJack II doesn’t look drastically different from the original and still leaves room for improvement, the subtle changes in design and components are a nice upgrade.” Read more about the Samsung BlackJack II (i617).
