Apple News - new laptops

Apple News - new laptops
If you noticed your local Apple store was closed today, that was your first clue. Tuesday is the magic day for Apple to dazzle us with new products and upgrades, and make us want to spend money. After the introduction of the Mac Book Air, today’s news was pretty anti-climactic. The MacBook and MacBook Pro lines sport new Intel Penryn chips (faster processor speeds ), a bigger hard drive, and more memory; and the Pros feature the multi-touch the macbook air has been bragging about. Here are the specs you need to know: MacBook Pro models feature the latest Intel Core 2 Duo processors (running at up to 2.6GHz with 6MB of shared L2 cache), larger hard drives (up to 300GB), and 2GB of memory standard in most models. Plug any pair of headphones into the DRC-BT815 and they become pairable with any Bluetooth audio device or phone. Including an embedded microphone, the DRC-BT815 can also be used as a hands free headset for your mobile phone. ASUS has smallest Core 2 Duo mini-desktop
In quite possibly the best lifestyle image every by ASUS, here we have an image that begs, “ASUS will put you to sleep.” Or perhaps, “toxic fumes from the Nova will knock you out!” Unfortunately, they were trying to convey how quiet this puppy is.  The unit, unlike the photo, looks very interesting. The Nova-P22 is a bit of an odd duck: part laptop/part desktop.  It has the built-in speakers, built in connectivity, form factor of a laptop but the Intel Core 2 Duo Desktop processor and super quiet performance of a desktop.  ASUS aims this unit to fit to your space constraints and took some care in making this unit very attractive in either a piano or glossy pearl white.  A docking station is available. Gmail users get double the fun: two email addresses

Gmail users get double the fun: two email addresses
This is high in the, “I didn’t know that” ranking.  Apparently, when you get a Gmail email address you actually get two: your regular @gmail.com and a @googlemail.com.  Both email addresses get to you.  Perhaps Google wasn’t sure the “Gmail” name was going to take off?  No matter, as here is a handy trick you can use to further filter your mail.  By giving the @googlemail.com address to your close and trusted friends and family, you can set up a filter to always allow their mail to get through leaving the @gmail.com address to be more of a catch all.  Less spam that gets to you is a good thing. One-time use battery for your iPod

Every now and then I see a product that will just have environmentalists up in arms. Usually these are products that use unnecessary amounts of power for nothing more than one’s own amusement. However, this time it’s simply a battery that is intended for a single use. This Cellboost will keep your iPod going during those times when you absolutely must listen to some tunes. This iPod-compatible Cellboost is exactly what it sounds to be. I’m sure you’ve heard of the Cellboost, which gives you power for your phone for short periods of time. I understand the use of such a gadget, as phone calls can be extremely important, if not life-saving in some cases. (Read the full post about ‘One-time use battery for your iPod’…)

2GB iPod Shuffles Now In Stock

Back on February 19th, I wrote about the announcement from Apple that they dropped the price of the iPod Shuffle and were adding a 2GB model to be released “soon” - well today is that day. Apple.com was down for a bit this morning releasing a whole new slew of products, including the 2GB iPod Shuffle. The new new 2GB model of the ipod shuffle can be picked up for $69. The popular iPod shuffle is just half a cubic inch in volume, weighs just half an ounce, features an aluminum design with a built-in clip and comes in five colors—silver, blue, green, purple and a (PRODUCT) RED special edition. If you’re looking for something that just plays music but found the 1GB model just wasn’t big enough - you really should pick up the 2GB model. Sharp and Sony tie the knot on LCD HDTV production
Posted Feb 26th 2008 1:47AM by Ryan BlockFiled under: HDTV The WSJ is reporting that, slightly close to what was rumored, market leaders Sharp and Sony are getting hitched on a joint LCD HDTV panel production business — not unlike how LG and Philips have LG Display (formerly LG.Philips LCD). While the venture has yet to be named (we’ll call it Sharp.Sony for now, why not?), the $3.5 billion plant is under construction right now in Sakai, and is due to open its doors in March 2010 where it will produce as many as 72,000 HDTVs per month. Sharp is slated to own two-thirds of the business with Sony owning the remaining third.
