Logitech’s ClearChat PC wireless stereo headset does VoIP, too
Posted Mar 5th 2008 12:17PM by Darren MurphFiled under: Misc. gadgets What’s the use in having a wireless set of cans to rock with and a separate contraption to make / receive Skype calls on? Exactly, thus the Logitech ClearChat PC was born. Of course, it’s certainly not the first cordless set of stereo headphones to sport a microphone, but being that it’s built on 2.4GHz technology, you can finally take your calling habits wherever you go in the house (well, within 33 feet of the USB transmitter) without fear of static ruining a good pep talk. AMD switches to 45nm process for new CPUs

AMD switches to 45nm process for new CPUs

I must say that AMD has disappointed me over the last year or two. I used to be an AMD guy, and most of the computers in the house still run some form of Athlon chips. However, my main gaming PC and notebook both run on Intel CPUs. It seems like at every turn AMD is just playing catch-up. Did I mention that they’ve announced that they’re getting ready to switch over to a 45nm process for their new chips? I really don’t want to talk bad about AMD, as I always secretly hope that with every new announcement they might be returning to their former glory. They are citing lower power-consumption and cooler-running chips as the two main reasons for switching over to the smaller process. Sierra Wireless intros Compass 597 EV-DO USB modem

Sierra Wireless intros Compass 597 EV-DO USB modem
Posted Mar 5th 2008 10:45AM by Darren MurphFiled under: cellphones, Wireless Truth be told, there’s nothing extraordinary about Sierra Wireless’ latest EV-DO USB modem. It plays nice with Rev. A networks, includes a microSD slot, and comes with TRU-Install to simplify the setup procedure. Granted, it is “the only product in its class to include a connector for an external antenna (saywha?),” and it is remarkably small, so it’s still worth a look if you’re currently doing without. As expected, you’ll reach downlink speeds of up to 3.1Mbps and upload speeds of up to 1.8Mbps, and the built-in GPS antenna is a nice bonus, too. Unfortunately, we’ve no idea how costly this one will be, but be on the lookout for a Q2 launch. (Read the full post about ‘Sierra Wireless intros Compass 597 EV-DO USB modem’…)

Samsung intro’s the Spinpoint M6, a 2.5-inch 500GB hard drive
Samsung’s latest announcement means they are getting closer to putting 1TB of storage with a single drive into notebooks. The newly announced Spinpoint M6 hard drive is the “world’s first” 2.5-inch 500GB notebook drive. The 500GB hard drive was produced by combining three 167GB platters into the hard drives small frame which achieves the 500GB total capacity. Despite its storage capacity, the Spinpoint M6 still boasts a 5,400 RPM capability. Fast enough for most everyone’s mobile computing needs. Samsung has announced the drive is currently shipping, however they have not yet announced which PC maker will be carrying the hard drive. Eyes on NVIDIA’s GeForce 9800 GX2
Posted Mar 5th 2008 8:16AM by Thomas RickerFiled under: Features, Gaming At this point, the only thing that could make NVIDIA’s GeForce 9800 GX2 any more real is an actual street release. Nevertheless, here it is, displayed with glory and gusto at the Innovision booth here at CeBIT. They wouldn’t take it out of the case by order of NVIDIA but we did get confirmation that the anticipated graphics king will launch before March is done for an undisclosed price. Plenty of pics of the card and box for your GPU sleuthing in the gallery below. (Read the full post about ‘Eyes on NVIDIA’s GeForce 9800 GX2′…)

.docstoc: Find & share professional documents
I recently discovered docstoc.com through a colleague and almost instantly became addicted. .docstoc is a user-generated community built for free-sharing professional documents (legal, business, technology, education, and creative). Did I mention that it’s a free service? Whether you’re creating a lease or contract for a new tenant, or starting a new job and in need of a strategy deck, you’ll find an abundance of high-quality examples in multiple formats (: .doc, .pdf, .xls, .ppt, .ppt, .txt). A somewhat social community, you’ll find a highly engaged user-base viewing, downloading, rating, and commenting on all documents. Microsoft stocks up on Heroes soda, clearly has a thing for lemon-lime
Posted Mar 5th 2008 7:20AM by Darren MurphFiled under: Misc. gadgets We’re not exactly sure what’s up with using sodas to celebrate the launch of something, but apparently, the folks in Redmond just totally dig it. For (at least) the second time in as many years, Microsoft has selected a lemon-lime beverage to create buzz (and fizz, we suppose) about a particular product launch. C’mon Microsoft, we know you like to stick to your guns, but what’s a fellow got to do to get some rebadged NuGrape?Tags: tests, cable, speaker, pvr (Read the full post about ‘Microsoft stocks up on Heroes soda, clearly has a thing for lemon-lime’…)

Automatic data backup with Sandisk Flashback Adapter
Even though we know that creating backup files is a very important task, most of us do not actually do it regularly for a lot of reasons. Some simply forget about it but others find it very tedious. Now, there is a new and easy-to-use device called SanDisk Flashback Adapter which aims to streamline this process. Developed for Windows-based laptops with an ExpressCard slot, this adapter instantly copy and encrypts your important files to any SD or SDHC memory card. No need to schedule your backups, burn your files to CD/DVDs or save to your external hard drive. A simple yet effective solution since we really don’t know when our laptop will crash or petty accidents will happen. Vudu XL now shipping, Vault online storage now an option
The Vudu XL has begun to ship. Available in the 1TB XL model, users will now have a pretty decent amount of available local storage for all your content. In addition, and just in case that large local storage is not going to be enough, they have also announced the Vudu Vault. Still listed as being in Beta, the Vault will allow users to store content online as opposed to taking up your precious local storage space. Access to the Vault will come with the latest software update, which brings it to version 1.3. Vudu, while seemingly not as much a hot-topic as compared to the AppleTV seems to be offering some decent competition.
