Touch-free Paper Towel Dispenser

Written by admin on Saturday, March 29th, 2008 in Gadgets.

Touch-free Paper Towel Dispenser
In the tradition of other touch-free/touchless gadgets, here is a touch-free paper towel dispenser. Works pretty simply - just wave your hand in front of the sensor and it starts pushing out half sheets, and automatically stops when it detects the perforated lines. It stops and locks the rest in place, so you can with just one hand rip off what you need without touching the rest of the roll. Get and use this in your home to keep from spreading germs around. Just needs 4 D batteries. Get rechargeables! Gimme! (Read the full post about ‘Touch-free Paper Towel Dispenser’…)

Teens don’t care if they go deaf as long as it’s because of good music
Researchers who conducted focus-group discussions with teenagers from Netherlands have found a “shocking” discovery. Although most teens are aware of the damage that they are inflicting upon themselves by setting the volumes of their music players on high, they generally don’t care. That’s easy to understand, but what I don’t get is why many people are still puzzled as to why this is so. Shouldn’t it be general knowledge by now that most people really do prefer to listen to loud music? It’s the best way to really appreciate music anyway. Google UK turned the lights out for Earth Hour
Today Google.co.uk has “turned the lights out” in an effort to help save energy. While making the background black doesn’t really save energy since modern displays, regardless of the display, also use the same amount of power, Google did this to openly participate in the Earth Hour campaign. The Earth Hour invites people from all over the world to turn their lights off today, March 29, at least for an hour, between 8:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Energy conservation is what the Earth Hour organization wants to happen. To help spread the awareness, Google UK decided to go “black” for a greener environment. Vietnam Memorial Wall goes online
Anyone who wants to visit the famous Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington can now do so without having to set foot in the US capital as a new interactive website was recently launched this week. Footnote.com, in cooperation with the National Archives and Records Administration, came up with the website as a project for historical document. The site serves as a virtual version of the memorial honoring almost 8,000 American military men who fought in the Vietnam War.  Searching for a name on the real 246 foot National Monument may take some time but with the virtual website, the name would come up in a few seconds. So it’s more like a database of the heroes’ names. (Read the full post about ‘Vietnam Memorial Wall goes online’…)

Sakar blings out MP3 players

Sakar blings out MP3 players

Sakar has a couple of new MP3 players that seemingly target the pre-teen segment of the market. These won’t be able to save you from bankruptcy should you default on your loans for a few months in a row, and even pawn shops won’t want to take this in. Covered in fake jewels, you can choose from pink or purple colors. These Sakar MP3 players will carry just 512MB worth of songs inside, which is paltry considering today’s storage standards. Pricing details are conspicuously missing as well, but it shouldn’t hit your wallet for too much damage anyways. (Read the full post about ‘Sakar blings out MP3 players’…)

Dell Inspiron 1525 to feature Blu-ray for only $879
Dell’s new Inspiron 1525 laptop combines a Blu-ray combo drive with affordability at an asking price of $879. The 1.82GHz Core 2 Duo processor is plenty powerful enough, and features a 15.4-inch display with a 720p resolution and HDMI out. It also comes standard with 1GB of RAM and a 80GB hard drive. With such a low asking price, some features have to be sacrificed, for example if you want to bump the Blu-ray player up to a burner, be prepared to fork out another $200. All things considered, its a very good price for a Blu-ray capable laptop. Motorized Monocycle

Is this ever a funky piece of transportation - the Motorized Monocycle from Hammacher. Drawing upon a robust history of development that began with an original design conceived in Marseilles, France in 1869, this is the motorized monocycle made in the Netherlands that propels a single rider up to 25 MPH. Powered by a 31cc, four-stroke 1 1/2-hp engine, the wheel operates by using a centrifugal clutch on its inner steel frame to engage the larger 67″ diam. outer flywheel that actually makes contact with the ground with a rubber tire. The ingenious device is steered by leaning to one side or the other, and it can safely negotiate any dense surface such as pavement or grass. (Read the full post about ‘Motorized Monocycle’…)
