Windows XP hangs on for dear life

Windows XP hangs on for dear life

I must say out of all the Windows operating systems that I have used thus far (starting from 3.1…I was too young to use 1.0 when it was released), Windows XP was the one that held my attention the most. Even the notebook that I purchased last year runs on Windows XP, as I politely declined the Windows Vista option after hearing horror stories about it. Microsoft has clearly seen the stranglehold Windows XP has on the world, and they have finally relented to let Windows XP Home Edition hang around for another two years, which is a welcome reprieve considering the fact that Microsoft planned to pull it away from shelves in less than three months from now. Nexcopy lets you copy to 20 USB drives at once

Nexcopy lets you copy to 20 USB drives at once
What would you do if you had to copy a couple of hundred megs of data to 20 USB drives in under 5 minutes? That’s easy, right? But look at the constraint – you have only one PC. Now, that’s a toughie. The Nexcopy USB duplicator allows you to copy as much as 250MB of data to 20 USB drives in one shot. In under 4 minutes. Now, who can beat that? For companies, this device can save much time and effort, for example, when duplicating official data on USB drives for distribution among employees. Or for a company marketing a new product during a promotional campaign. This giant USB duplicator with equally giant possibilities sells at a pricey $1299. Via OhGizmo. HTC TyTN II Review - CNET Australia

HTC TyTN II Review - CNET Australia
CNET Australia reviews the HTC TyTN II and writes, “For business users looking specifically for a Windows mobile device the choice between handsets is much harder than in other areas of mobile phones. Most have the best connectivity options available, most have the most popular input options, including touchscreens, and most are on the wrong side of enormous and suffer poor battery life. Moreover, with the majority of these PDA-phones priced between AU$900 and AU$1,100, the choice may come down to aesthetics alone.” Read more about the HTC TyTN II. iTunes climbs over Wal-Mart

iTunes climbs over Wal-Mart
“Can anyone not see a day when iTunes passes Wal-Mart? “ I wrote that last month in a post about iTunes playing second fiddle to Wal-Mart.  Today, the news comes that there is a change in the #1 position for music sales, and that leader is iTunes.  Apple sent out an email yesterday to employees that was promptly forwarded to our friends at ars technica. A couple of things to watch out for here, one the data is based on a survey, not point of sale.  Two, 13 year olds and under don’t count.  Much has been said about downloads vs. (Read the full post about ‘iTunes climbs over Wal-Mart’…)

Nike launches Nike+ SportBand; as expected

Nike launches Nike+ SportBand; as expected
Nike has officially announced its new Nike+ SportBand, which will be available on April 10. When we mentioned the Sportband a couple of days ago, there was a very limited amount of information about it yet, so we didn’t expect that aside from launching an uber cool gizmo specifically for runners, Nike was also launching the SportBand with its online runner’s coaching system – the Nike+ Coach. If that sounds familiar to you, well that’s because Adidas has a similar service in partnership with Samsung, the Adidas Mi Coach which utilizes mobile handsets instead of the SportsBand.  As expected, the Nike+ SportBand is just like the previous Nike+iPod. Give GMail a make over - easy

Give GMail a make over - easy
I am a big fan of GMail and this is just the thing to perk up the experience.  By adding in this extension (for Firefox users) and plugging in a style, you too can go from bland to wow.  Hey, if I can do it… The extension, like most Firefox things are super easy.  Simply download the Stylish extension and then click on the Userstyle link and click download.  Whammo, you are in business, after you restart Firefox. I’ve been using it all day and I like it.  The colors are a nice contrast to GMails usual colors.  The Chat window pops up in the old blue and white, but other than that it is a nice set up.  Load times are lengthened a bit for me when logging on, but after that everything seems to work just fine. Yahoo! relies on voice commands for search

Written by admin on Friday, April 4th, 2008 in Gadgets.

We have all become too comfortable with the idea of performing searches by entering a query in our favorite search engine, but Yahoo! is about to introduce a paradigm shift to the world by enabling users to use voice commands to search the web instead. Boerries, executive vice president of Yahoo’s Connected Life unit mentioned that “This is really a sea change. This is not about simple Web links any more.” Guess with more and more people surfing on their cell phones, it makes perfect sense to increase accessibility to web links on these handsets. Yahoo!’s latest oneSearch service will be the latest thrust from the Microsoft target in order to further gain market share that have eroded sharply since the emergence of Google.

3-D IQ Sphere

Written by admin on Friday, April 4th, 2008 in Gadgets.

Now according to the product description, the 3-D IQ Sphere is supposed to train both your IQ and EQ, although I’m not too sure how the latter part is going to be trained. Will arranging a rounded Rubik’s Cube actually improve my EQ? At $9 a pop, I’d rather throw in an additional $10 to pick up Brain Age on my DS which offers me way more interactivity, and to be able to share the joys of Brain Age with friends and family will definitely increase my EQ no two ways about it

Together with its announcement of redesigned laptops in its Satellite series, Toshiba has also announced a new technology called Sleep-and-Charge USB ports. As you can guess from its name, this allows the USB port to charge up your mobile devices whether the laptop is powered on, shut off or in sleep mode.

The new USB port answer’s the shortcomings of today’s USB ports. That is, their dependence on the laptop or desktop for power supply. With the new Sleep-and-Charge USB ports, Toshiba has eliminated this problem. Now, for as long as the laptop or desktop where the USB port is plugged in to an electrical outlet, the USB port will continue to provide power.
