Averatec gets rugged

Averatec has introduced a couple of semi-ruggedized notebooks in the market for those who tend to knock their notebooks around unwittingly whenever they travel. The new Voya series of notebooks consists of two models - the Voya 4473 being a 14.1″ standard notebook while the larger Voya 6494 boasts a 15.4″ widescreen display. With both of them featuring robust drop and vibration resistance, you can rest easy even if you suffer from a particularly bad case of butter fingers that very day. Heck, its spill resistant keyboard and keypad makes it all the more appealing since you no longer need to pick your heart up from the floor when the resident clumsy colleague at the office drops by your cubicle for a chat with a mug of coffee in hand. New SOLo table does more than just a normal table
Normally, tables don’t do much, they just sit there and let you work on it or put stuff on it. However, this new table from SOLo, by Intelligent Forms is not just your average table, it is solar powered which means you can run or charge your gadgets while using them on the table. This really is a great idea and if the price can stay relatively inexpensive, it is sure to be very popular, especially since people are trying to become more energy efficient. Reportedly, if you leave it for a year in a “typical outdoor setting,” it has enough juice to charge your typical cellphone about 6,800 times, or a laptop 168 times. Intel drops Core 2 Quad, Xeon prices by 50%
Planning on building that new gaming rig? Here’s some good news. Putting pressure on rival chip-maker Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), Intel has surprisingly halved the prices on its Core 2 Quad Q6700 (from $530 to $266) and Quad-Core Xeon X3230 (from $530 to $266). Overall, fourteen processors experienced a price cut, ranging from 12% to 50% off. Other CPUs with slashed prices include the Core 2 Quad Q6600 (from $266 to $244), Core 2 Duo E6850 (from $266 to $183), Dual-Core Xeon 3085 (from $366 to $188), Celeron 560 (from $134 to $107) and more. All prices reflect 1,000 unit shipments. The reason for the discounted prices is Intel’s transition from their 65nm to 45nm process. NDrive intros photo mapping G280, G800 GPS units
by Donald Melanson, posted Apr 22nd 2008 at 2:56PM Ever the one to find a somewhat unique selling point for its GPS units, NDrive has now announced a pair of new devices that employ what the company claims to be the “world’s first photo mapping system.” That slightly dubious claim aside, the new G280 and G800 units certainly look like they’ll get the job done and then some, with them each boasting visual and audible speed camera alerts, a pedestrian mode for out-of-vehicle use, and of course the usual range of PMP features with an SD card slot provided for expansion. The G800 also takes things a couple of steps further with built-in Bluetooth and an FM transmitter to pump audio through your vehicle’s speakers. by Paul Miller, posted Apr 22nd 2008 at 5:42PM Archos just launched its new GPS In-Car Holder for the Archos 605 WiFi. True to its name, the unit holds the 605 in your car and pipes steaming hot GPS data into the unit. With that 4.3-inch LCD to view the maps it’s certainly a fitting match, and features include full voice navigation. There are three versions of the device, one for Europe, one for North America and one for China, and all of them will work with all sizes of the 605 WiFi. Voice Recording Tape Measure
Almost all tape measures are pretty normal, meaning they are old-school, but that is when the this Voice Recording Tape Measure joins the party. As the name suggests, you can do a couple of voice recordings while measuring stuff, so there is no need for the pen + paper combo. The only problem seems to be the (small) memory that can only hold 20 seconds of audio content. To help you out doing exact measurements, there is a LED light located in front of the device. It works with 4 LR44 batteries, which are included in the price - 10. (Read the full post about ‘Voice Recording Tape Measure’…)
