10 Gigabit Ethernet over Copper

This is news- (and drool-) worthy. Intel just announced the first 10 Gigabit server adapter that will work over copper cables. They’re teaming up with Dell to have these adapters offered in PowerEdge servers. These 10GBe adapters will work over Cat 6 & 6a cable.

Hitachi announces UltraThin 1.5 display US availability
Hitachi has announced the US availability of their UltraThin 1.5 displays. The UltraThin line-up will be available in 32, 37, 42 and 47-inch sizes and are available in two product lines. The Director X Series which will range in price from $1,999 up to $4,699 and comes with a 2-year warranty or the UltraVision V Series which ranges in price from $1,799 to $4,499 and comes with just a 1-year warranty. On both series the smaller 32-inch displays will offer a 1366 x 768 resolution, while the larger 37, 42 and 47-inch displays are offering a 1920 x 1080 resolution. Availability seems to range from April up till September of 2008. You know those elephant-sized medical scanners? Totally amazing machines, sure, but things like that aren’t apt to be shipped into obscure jungles throughout Africa. Thankfully, a team of researchers have developed something that could bring medical scanning to an even larger chunk of the world: a real live Tricorder. Of course, it’s not really going by that moniker, but the diminutive scanner is able to interface with a cellphone via USB and utilize its 3G / WiFi access to send raw scan data to servers and receive images back.
