The iPhone becomes a Surveillance tool
In today’s security obsessed world, having a portable surveillance capability is always advantageous when trying to keep up with the bad guys. A new iPhone application can now allow security personnel to not only track security camera images, but also control them. Vegas will no doubt take notice. Lextech is the company that publishes the software, made possible by the Apple iPhone Software development kit release and it not only gives users a wireless capability to keep watch from security cameras, but also control them using the multi touch screen capability of the iphone. Users can zoom, tilt, and pan just like operating the camera from a joystick. Check out videos of it in action here and here. (Read the full post about ‘The iPhone becomes a Surveillance tool’…)

YouTube launches YouTube India
Well, it was a long time coming, but YouTube has finally made its localized Indian version go live. Now, YouTube users from India are given access to a highly personalized version of the site, featuring content that’s filtered through a so-called “Indian lens.” The live video charts show what videos are being watched by users in India, and the featured videos are now targeted towards an Indian audience. Literally dozens of local partners have also been signed-up by YouTube to provide home-grown content to the users. And they even launched an official Indian YouTube Blog. So if you’re looking for some original South Asian video goodness, head on over to http://in.youtube.com. (Read the full post about ‘YouTube launches YouTube India’…)

Microsoft to appeal $1.35B EU antitrust fine

Microsoft to appeal $1.35B EU antitrust fine
by Nilay Patel, posted May 9th 2008 at 2:33PM Microsoft’s no stranger to appealing antitrust decisions before the European Commission’s Court of the First Instance, and it looks like it’s saddling up for another go ’round: the software giant has decided to appeal that $1.3B antitrust fine handed down in February. Saying that it was only filing as part of a “constructive effort to seek clarity from the court,” Microsoft has asked that the decision be annulled. Yeah, that seems pretty clear. As always, our suggestions that this be resolved with a GTA IV / CoD4 round-robin deathmatch on Live have gone unheeded in favor of tedious paperwork and months of delay, but we’re still holding out hope.[Thanks, Hosain]ReadPermalinkEmail this41 CommentsFiled under: Misc. Cellphone concept with detachable screen seems doable
A Japan-based designer known as Marimo-san is thinking way out of the box with his latest cellphone concept design, featuring a mechanism that allows for a detachable screen. The screen in this cellphone concept design can be removed so the user can enjoy video calls on the go. And aside from that, the slot for the screen should also accept other add-ons such as a widescreen display and a dual screen video viewer, to name a few, turning the cellphone into a number of new devices at any given time. Here is the cellphone with detachable screen concept pictured with the add-ons I mentioned earlier (widescreen display and dual screen video viewer). With the technology that we have today, this actually seems pretty doable. (Read the full post about ‘Cellphone concept with detachable screen seems doable’…)

See through Post-it Notes

French Fry Car Holder For Frequent Fast Food Eaters
Fast food started as the great American tradition, but has evolved into a worldwide phenomenon. The food might be absolutely terrible for you, but what it lacks in nutritional facts, it makes up for in yumminess and price. Some people say they don’t like the taste of fast food, and they’d be lying. The food is greasy, caloric, but delicious. The invention of the drive-thru led to even faster ways to obtaining a meal on-the go and companies are starting to ride the meal train all the way to the bank. Available through the Improvements Catalog, this cupholder-mounted French Fry Holder is living proof that fast food is here to stay, despite the surge of health-conscious eaters. UK’s version of the FCC predicts “Tomorrow’s Wireless World”
A fascinating report by the United Kingdom’s version of the Federal Communications Commission paints a vivid picture of a technology-driven world right out of a Vernor Vinge novel: Bluetooth implants in your body warning doctors of impending heart attacks; wireless sensors in cars slamming on the brakes before collisions; reminders from doctors to take medications based on wireless vital sign readings. The Office of Communications, known as Ofcom, is the UK’s independent regulator of competition in its television, radio, telecom and wireless communications industries. Its new report, “Tomorrow’s Wireless World,” features technology innovations being tested in some British cities and it already has some privacy advocates shouting about a digital Big Brother.
