Nokia 6555 Review - the Washingtonpost

Nokia 6555 Review - the Washingtonpost
The Washingtonpost reviews the Nokia 6555 and writes, “On the imaging front, the Nokia 6555’s 1.3-megapixel camera does a solid job reproducing colors but scored poorly in terms of resolution and noise. You probably won’t be framing any photos you take with the 6555…Overall, the Nokia 6555 offers users a solid feature set for an entry-level phone, but with a few drawbacks you might expect from any phone you’re getting for free with a contract. The lack of multimedia functionality is an annoyance, but realistically you probably aren’t going to find a great music or camera phone at this price.” Read more about the Nokia 6555. LG KF600 Review - Register Hardware

Written by admin on Saturday, May 24th, 2008 in Gadgets.

Register Hardware reviews the LG KF600 and writes, “The camera is capable of capturing some finely detailed shots, with quite vibrant colour rendition. Its automatic metering system adjusts quickly to changing lighting conditions and exposure is generally good. In low light levels, the performance isn’t quite so good, and the flash option could be better – it is bright for short-range shots, but doesn’t illuminate with much finesse.”

Sans Digital’s CS1T and CR2T turn CF cards into 2.5-inch enclosures
by Joshua Fruhlinger, posted May 24th 2008 at 5:04PM We’ve seen CF-SATA converters before, but what if you were to create a SATA shaped, sized, and interfaced enclosure and allow users to throw Compact Flash cards in there to make their own SSDs for more standard installs? Sans Digital’s CS1T is a single-card Compact Flash CF to 2.5″ SATA enclosure and the CR2T is a dual-card enclosure that uses RAID to support up to 64GB. Windows Mobile 6.1 update for HTC TyTN II now extra official
by Chris Ziegler, posted May 24th 2008 at 6:05PM A leaky update faucet let in-the-know users get in on this one a little early, but HTC’s now ready to trumpet its official Windows Mobile 6.1 update for its TyTN II to the world. Besides 6.1, the new release packs in the “display performance update” promised some time ago to help put a cap on the cursing and fist-shaking being displayed by owners of various HTC devices lately — but as we understand it, this isn’t a true driver, so don’t expect miracles. UK ASUS Eee 900s come with stunted battery, longer warranty

UK ASUS Eee 900s come with stunted battery, longer warranty
by Ryan Block, posted May 24th 2008 at 10:16AMSo according to El Reg, it turns out ASUS is selling its Eee 900 laptops in the UK with 4400mAh batteries — quite a bit smaller than the 5800mAh batteries that come in the US version. It’s insult to injury when you consider that the larger screen necessarily sucks down more juice than on the 700 series, but ASUS explains that overseas users get a tradeoff in exchange: UK warranties last two years, supposedly longer than their US counterparts (although to be fair, we’ve heard of retailers listing the US Eee’s warranty at two years as well). WiMAX, iPhone slammed by Japanese ISP Founder

WiMAX, iPhone slammed by Japanese ISP Founder
So what happens when you combine a Japanese ISP Founder, the idea of an iPhone, and the idea of WiMAX together in a room? You get a fun-filled day of iPhone/WiMAX bashing! Sachio Semmoto, the founder of eAccess (a broadband provider as well as a wireless company) said that the iPhone is a “total failure” in the US compared to the number of phones sold by others (think RAZR). While he liked the functions, he doesn’t like it on AT&T (who doesn’t?). “If I have a chance to talk to Steve, I’d like to tell him face to face: You made a wrong choice.” In between shots at the iphone, Semmoto also mentioned that WiMAX will lose the 4G mobile battle versus LTE (no mention of UMB?) and CDMA (the technology Verizon and Sprint uses) will fail on the way to LTE. Executive Chefs One Second Probe And Surface Thermometer

Written by admin on Saturday, May 24th, 2008 in Gadgets.

Executive Chefs One Second Probe And Surface Thermometer
The Executive Chefs One Second Probe And Surface Thermometer is one mean device, touted to be favored by “professional chefs and commercial food service facilities for its speed and accuracy.” This thermometer’s infrared sensor and flip-up thermocouple probe have a one-second response time for instantly measuring the temperature of cooking surfaces or the inner temperature of roasts or liquids. By merely aiming its lens at a target area and pressing a button, it displays the surface temperature from -67° F to 482° F on the LCD panel, with accuracy of ± 7°. It can also be set to display the temperature continuously or just when it registers above or below a pre-set threshold. Spotlight Torch

Written by admin on Saturday, May 24th, 2008 in Gadgets.

Spotlight Torch
The Spotlight Torch is definitely nifty to have in an emergency, and being of such a diminutive size, it makes perfect sense to carry one in the car at all times just in case of an emergency. While it is waterproof, make sure it doesn’t stay underwater for over half an hour. Best of all for outdoor types, the Spotlight is fully submersible in water too. From changing a tyre during a monsoon to executing elaborate James Bond-style aquatic stunts, it won’t let you down when the going gets wet - which is more than we can say for your car insurance when they hear about your 007 underwater antics. It’s about the same size as the old lighter from your car’s socket, but potentially far more useful. (Read the full post about ‘Spotlight Torch’…)
