SMK’s Wireless Input Pen lets you scribble like a 5 year old
by Thomas Ricker, posted Jun 9th 2008 at 7:38AM SMK Corp just introduced a supposed world’s first “Wireless Input Pen.” Catchy. The prototype pen features a 3-axis accelerometer and Bluetooth allowing you to write to, and interact with a display at a distance of up to 10-meters. It works without any of that specially formatted paper required by most Bluetooth pens — just a bit of flittering the device about in mid-air. That is, until your arm gets tired and you question the whole point.Read PermalinkEmail this12 CommentsFiled under: Misc. gadgets, PeripheralsTags: Ogg Vorbis, wireless, dap, gizmos (Read the full post about ‘SMK’s Wireless Input Pen lets you scribble like a 5 year old’…)

Apple stores go down all over the world
by Ryan Block, posted Jun 9th 2008 at 10:14AMWhat could Apple possibly be announcing today that would cause a whole bunch of its international stores (Australia, Taiwan, Singapore, etc.) to go down? And what’s with that new iphone tab showing up on those sites? We’re so confused. (Read the full post about ‘Apple stores go down all over the world’…)

What you need to know about Blu Ray

Written by admin on Monday, June 9th, 2008 in Gadgets.

What you need to know about Blu Ray
A survey published last week revealed that 55% of Americans who have HDTV don’t know what Blu Ray is. Of those who did know, just 9% plan on buying a Blu Ray player anytime soon. Considering that Blu Ray and HDTV go together like french fries and ketchup, it’s a shame people aren’t more aware of - and more enthusiastic about - the new DVD format. Unless you only ever rent movies from iTunes or have no interest in films whatsoever, it’s hard to avoid ads for Blu Ray movies in every video store on and offline. There can’t be many stores wihtout a small but prominent Blu Ray section, and I’ve seen more than one confused customer try to check out a Blu Ray disc when they don’t have the capacity to play it. T-Mobile has sour grapes cries foul over Starbucks new wireless deal
Claiming that Starbucks has breached its contract regarding interim Wireless coverage until AT&T’s service is fully implemented, T-Mobile is filing suit against both Starbucks and AT&T. The legal action is due to Starbuck’s current practice of offering the T-Mobile service, which can cost up to $10 a day and $20 a month, for free while the AT&T wireless service is implemented to over 7,000 Starbucks locations across the USA. T-Mobile’s position is that the interim agreement granted them exclusive rights to wireless service in all Starbucks locations until the AT&T transition was complete. But as of today, only two Starbucks in the country actually have AT&T service. (Read the full post about ‘T-Mobile has sour grapes cries foul over Starbucks new wireless deal’…)

Blu-ray may have won the battle, but the war against consumers isn’t over
Although hd dvd has conceded defeat in the race to become the high definition successor of the DVD, and left the path open for Blu-ray, its still not been an easy going to convince consumers that they need to invest in this next generation disc format. In a situation that is reminiscent of the DVD growth over VHS, only 1 in 10 people are currently intending to invest in a Blu-ray player. After news that Blu-ray players are becoming significantly cheaper, the news also surfaces that only 9% of HD TV owners are planning to buy a Blu-ray player. This is nothing if not surprising, as one would have thought that if you were to spend $2000 on a new HD TV, you would want to be able to play HD movies. Samsung officially announces the i900 Omnia
There’s no doubt that the iPhone-mania is hitting the web big time. Apple rivals have been trying to steal some publicity hype away from the iPhone by preempting the WWDC announcements where Apple is expected to announce the new iphone. Take the case of Samsung’s latest mobile phone, the i900. It was not that long ago that rumors about the i900 began to surface. A Chinese site even have a hands-on report with the actual unit. But Samsung, knowing that Apple’s iPhone is about to take the center stage any moment now, decided to officially announced the Samsung i900 which is now also called the Samsung i900 Omnia.
