JVC Victor rolls out new Alneo XA-V series DAPs for Japan
by Donald Melanson, posted Jun 11th 2008 at 8:54PM It’s been quite a while since we’ve seen one of JVC Victor’s Aleno players, but it looks like the line is still going strong in Japan, where the company has just announced three new XA-V series models. Those include the XA-V80, XA-V40, and XA-V20, which come loaded with 8GB, 4GB, and 2GB of storage, respectively, and include a 2-inch, 220 x 176 display, JVC’s proprietary “K2″ audio-enhancing technology, and a promised 25 hours or so of battery life (or six doing video), among other fairly standard specs. Google honcho Sergey Brin plans first-ever private trip to the ISS
by Joshua Topolsky, posted Jun 11th 2008 at 12:45PM Google co-founder Sergey Brin is about to join an extremely short list of space tourists, according to reports. The search engine-kingpin just dropped a $5 million dollar “investment” on the company Space Adventures, which all but guarantees him a seat on the outfit’s next flight in 2011. The trip aboard the Russian Soyuz rocket will take Brin to the ISS in the first-ever private flight to the station (Ubuntu head Mark Shuttleworth has made the trip, though not on a private mission). The company stresses that the ride will be less about tourism and more about commercial exploration, with passengers bringing aboard experiments and taking part in flight operations. AOC launches 22-inch 2230Fh LCD monitor
by Darren Murph, posted Jun 11th 2008 at 12:17PM Shortly after bringing the Envision L42H761 to market, AOC has decided to cater to those looking for something a touch smaller. The 22-inch 2230Fh LCD should work just fine as a computer monitor or bedroom HDTV, provided that you bring your own source of programming. The unit packs a 1,680 x 1,050 resolution, 20,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, 2-millisecond response time, a “glossy piano-black finish,” integrated speakers and VGA / DVI / HDMI inputs. Best of all, this thing won’t be putting any huge dent in your wallet with its $299.99 sticker. Full release after the jump. (Read the full post about ‘AOC launches 22-inch 2230Fh LCD monitor’…)

More Sony Ericsson Cyber-shot C905 pics and specs surface
by Donald Melanson, posted Jun 11th 2008 at 11:44AM Sony Ericsson’s Cyber-shot C905 only just broke cover yesterday, and it’s still yet to get official, but it looks like shots and specs of it are already starting to crop up at a pretty steady clip. In addition to giving us a glimpse at the sliver version, this latest batch of pics (available at the link below) also helpfully includes size comparisons to a couple of other phones, and shots of the C905 from various angles. As we had heard before, this one comes packing an impressive 8.1-megapixel camera, which will also capture VGA video, along with a QVGA screen (apparently 2.4-inches), GPS, Bluetooth, and HSDPA support. ASUS’ Eee PC 1000H goes on sale in Taiwan
by Darren Murph, posted Jun 11th 2008 at 9:58AM In a world filled with painful delays, seeing ASUS’ 10-inch Eee PC 1000H on sale this soon after being introduced at Computex is like a breath of fresh air. Or mildly stagnant air, considering we’re not anywhere close to Taiwan. Nevertheless, said machine is indeed up for grabs for those on that side of the planet, and just as we expected, it’s demanding NT$18,988 (or around $625). Voodoo Omen gets examined from the inside
by Donald Melanson, posted Jun 11th 2008 at 3:14PM We’ve already seen plenty of official pics and videos of Voodoo’s pricey new Omen desktop, but if you’ve been hankering to know what’s going on under its shiny hood you can now get your fix courtesy of Pocket-lint, which has cracked one open and snapped a couple of pics. Not surprisingly, the Omen’s insides are decided more cluttered than its minimalist exterior, not to mention considerably more brightly colored. Hit up the link below for a closer look. HP says to expect multi-touch laptops “long before” Windows 7

HP says to expect multi-touch laptops “long before” Windows 7
by Donald Melanson, posted Jun 11th 2008 at 2:43PM Fresh from showing off its TouchSmart 2 all-in-one device, HP has now dropped word that we can expect to see some multi-touch laptops from the company as well. That none-too-surprising bit of news comes straight from HP’s Kevin Frost, general manager of the consumer notebook division, who says that we can expect the laptops to show up “long before” the launch of multi-touch-friendly Windows 7 OS (supposedly on track for a 2010 release). ASUS’ Eee handwriting pad evokes the Dreamcast, flannel shirts

ASUS’ Eee handwriting pad evokes the Dreamcast, flannel shirts
by Joshua Topolsky, posted Jun 11th 2008 at 10:42AM Apparently ASUS thinks that people will want a tiny computer which they can delicately slip into their back pocket, but would also be interested in carrying around a slew of cabled peripherals. Hence the creation of this USB “handwriting pad” for the Eee — not to be confused with a steam-rolled Dreamcast controller (VMU included, of course). Honestly, when the plastic takes up more space than the screen, things might not be as “handy” as you suspect. InFocus IN3100 / IN1100 series projectors nab DisplayLink
by Darren Murph, posted Jun 11th 2008 at 9:07AM DisplayLink monitors are fine and dandy, but what if you’re looking to get that PowerPoint presentation even bigger? Enter InFocus’ IN3100 / IN1100 series of multimedia projectors, both of which claim to be the first of their kind with DisplayLink embedded. With a simple USB-to-PC connection, the beamers blast whatever totally boring and equally insignificant chart you’re being forced to speak on upside the wall. As for specs, we’re left in the dark with regard to resolution (hint: don’t set your expectations too high), but the IN3100 series boasts 3,000 to 3,500 lumens and a 2,000:1 contrast ratio while the IN1100 series offers up 2,000 lumens and an 1,800:1 contrast ratio.
