Robots to be our lovers by 2050, not just in Massachussetts

Remember when you were a kid and you told your friends that you totally loved your new computer, and some little luddite looked at you and said, “So why don’t you marry it?” There was that brief moment when you thought your Commodore 64 could, in fact, make a nice spouse. If not, move along. If so, David Levy told participants at a conference last week that we would all be having loving relationships with robots by 2050, not just trysts in Massachussetts. He predicts that we’ll have robots as sex toys within five years and true, deep relationships later on. (Read the full post about ‘Robots to be our lovers by 2050, not just in Massachussetts’…)

Intel’s Classmate PC getting a little Sugar?

Written by admin on Sunday, June 22nd, 2008 in Gadgets.

Intel’s Classmate PC getting a little Sugar?
It looks like the Sugar user interface, which known as the current operating system that powers the OLPC XO Laptop could soon be heading over to the Classmate PC from Intel. During a recent interview with PC World, Walter Bender has confirmed that “a community volunteer is working with Intel on Sugar for the Classmate PC. Sugar Labs helped to expedite the relationship.” Mr. Bender also went on to state that while he considers the XO Laptop their “primary” project, they are currently in talks with four other “low-cost laptop makers” one of which is Asus. Could that mean we may be seeing a Sugar powered Eee PC coming in the future? (Read the full post about ‘Intel’s Classmate PC getting a little Sugar?’…)

Openmoko FreeRunner looking good for early July release

Openmoko FreeRunner looking good for early July release
by Chris Ziegler, posted Jun 22nd 2008 at 6:41PM Unless you’re very, very special, you haven’t yet had an opportunity to run your hands over Openmoko’s latest open-source creation, the FreeRunner, which was announced several months back with the hope of a spring release. Unlike the Neo1973 before it, the FreeRunner’s said to be chock full of enough spit and polish to take on an audience larger than the original’s hardcore developer base, and while a springtime date with destiny is now out of reach, it looks like they’ll only miss the mark by a few days. Gigabyte M704 unboxing video excites reviewer, may put you to sleep
by Joshua Fruhlinger, posted Jun 22nd 2008 at 11:26AM It’s about time someone we understand got his hands on Gigabyte’s M704 UMPC. In this case, Chippysteve over at UMPC Portal put together a relatively long video that has him gushing over the new machine, navigating XP, tapping the screen, and putting the little computer through its various tasks. He seems to love the thing unconditionally, but did admit that the chiclet keyboard could use some work. Interface responsiveness looks decent and he proved the unit’s performance by running some 1080P video without much of a glitch, so his adoration is at least partially deserved. 1,000-foot glass funnel could save London’s Battersea Power Station
by Joshua Fruhlinger, posted Jun 22nd 2008 at 1:19PM The Battersea Power Station in London has been defunct since 1983, and urban developers have been scratching their heads to come up with a way to preserve the largest brick structure in all of Europe. Some wily Irish developers have come up with a way to turn the empty building into what they’re calling a “solar driven natural ventillation system” attached to shopping malls, 3,000 homes, and a boutique hotel. The 1,000-foot glass tower would use a funnel structure to force heat out of the complex using convection all the while providing a striking addition to the London skyline. All in all, developers say this would make the complex carbon neutral. (Read the full post about ‘1,000-foot glass funnel could save London’s Battersea Power Station’…)

The Tristar Massage Chair would be great for Sundays

The Tristar Massage Chair would be great for Sundays
The weekend is almost over, I know, I’m sorry to remind you.  However, you’ll need to do whatever possible to relax today to make it through the week to come.  You know the silly little chair pad that you can slap on your desk chair or put on your car seat for long drives?  It’s nifty because you get a nice cheap massage and none of the troubles of having to go to a masseuse.  First of all with a masseuse you have to pay for them, which is just ludicrous.  Then you have the awkward factor of what type of person do you want to be alone in a room with, while they rub on you.  Granted it feels great, but some people do have an issue with that.
