Microsoft details other 360 improvements, including hard drive game installs
by Paul Miller, posted Jul 14th 2008 at 3:58PM Microsoft sure had itself a doozy of a press conference this year, but there’s still more in store for Xbox 360 users than what was detailed during the keynote. First off, with the upcoming update, Microsoft will let users store and play back games from their hard drives. You’ll have to have the disc in your drive for piracy reasons, but it won’t be spinning during game play, which means quieter gaming and quicker load times (and more 60GB sales, we thinks, how convenient). Next up, Microsoft will let users make Xbox LIVE Marketplace purchases on the web, which are then automatically downloaded to your 360 for your enjoyment when you get home — or walk across the room. PSP firmware 4.05 goes live with new visualizers
by Nilay Patel, posted Jul 14th 2008 at 6:56PM Sony’s official blog says PSP firmware 4.05, out now, contains “other features” in addition to a couple new music visualizers, but it’s not clear what they are, apart from a slightly tweaked XMB animation if you’ve got a wallpaper set up. ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2 gets previewed

ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2 gets previewed
by Donald Melanson, posted Jul 14th 2008 at 4:33PM AMD’s ATI Radeon HD 4870 has been a bit of a mystery since word of the card first leaked out alongside the slightly lower-end Radeon HD 4850, but it looks like things are finally clearing up, with AMD itself first getting official about the card and the first hands-on previews of the card now turning up. As [H] Enthusiast reports, it looks like this one was well worth the wait, with it saying that its gameplay experiences with the card were “phenomenal.” That includes being able to play Crysis at 1920×1200 with all in-game settings cranked to “high” — a recipe for disaster on most cards, but apparently more than playable on the 4870 X2 (with some other suitably high end hardware to match, of course). Palm makes Treo 800w official

Palm makes Treo 800w official
At long last, Palm announces their “most business-friendly” phone yet.  The 800w is destined for Sprint and packs Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.1.  It is packed with goodies, like EV-DO rev A, WiFi and GPS.  Hoohah! Palm and Sprint suggest it surfs the web and downloads emails at broadband speeds.  It features an innovative one button on WiFi and a 320×320 display.  While not on the thin side at 0.73” (iphone 3G is 0.48” for reference), the phone does look nice, better than Palm phones have in years, IMO. Battery life checks in at 4.5 hours talk and 200 standby.  2.0 mp camera also does video, bluetooth and up to 8GB microSD cards are supported.  A fine business phone. Gin & Titonic: Celebrating Tragedy Since 1912

Gin & Titonic: Celebrating Tragedy Since 1912
Leonardo Decaprio is not amused. That snobby Kate Winslet is too busy swimming in pools of cash to care. And everyone else just loves the wit of a disaster being patronized for cash. And really, what’s not to love about the death of hundreds of people? Other than the whole death and people part. Celebrating disaster since 1912, the Gin & Titonic kit is all you need to create your own mini-Titanic disaster right in the comfort of your own alcohol. Use real live sea monkeys as passengers for extra points. Included in the design are miniature ocean liners and icebergs which are the perfect size for simulating the horror of human tragedy from the comfort of your home. HP Touchsmart PC hits the retail market
HP recently made their new TouchSmart all-in-one PC available online, now they have also announced retail availability. While I can just imagine the grime that will be on these in-store display models, I suppose it would be kind of nice to purchase a TouchSmart PC in person, because when you think about it, the touch is important and most will want to test it out a bit before committing. The TouchSmart PC comes in two models, the IQ504 PC and the IQ506 PC. Both offer a 22-inch touchscreen display and are priced at $1,299 and $1,499 respectively. The IQ506 PC is a little more powerful overall, but also comes with a built-in TV-tuner. Read [Business Wire] Product [HP] Keep up with the latest gadget goodness!
