Gateway ditches direct sales model, goes purely indirect
by Darren Murph, posted Jul 25th 2008 at 7:54PM Gateway, long known for its (once) very active direct sales model, is continuing to morph as it attempts to revitalize itself. The most recent strategic change is pretty remarkable — the outfit is completely and thoroughly ditching the aforesaid direct sales model. From here on out, prospective customers will only be able to snag a Gateway PC from retailers, e-tailers and other channel partners. Asus continues to roll-out the Eee branded accessories

Asus continues to roll-out the Eee branded accessories
Asus has just announced plans to roll out an Eee branded external hard drive (Eee Drive), an external optical drive (Eee Writer) and the T500 3G connection card. While these latest accessories are actually useful, its hard not to think that they are just taking this whole Eee branding a little far. The Eee PC was something special when it first hit the market, now with what seems to be an endless introduction of new models it seems to have gone overboard. Currently there are more Eee PC notebooks than I would like to think of, not to mention the Eee Box, and the previously announced accessory lineup. Of course, in typical Asus fashion we have yet to see an announcement on this latest lineup, however judging from the pictures (right and below) they seem official. The Gladiator Fit Flop

Written by admin on Friday, July 25th, 2008 in Gadgets.

I’m sort of a fan of the FitFlop “mini-wobble board sandals”, which I wear around the house, because although they don’t appear to actually do anything to make me more fit, they’re pretty comfortable, at least for short periods. One thing I definitely don’t have the sartorial panache to pull off, however, is the flip flops with the cute dress look. On me, it looks much less casual chic and much more like I’ve just escaped a house fire and was lucky to have anything on my feet at all.

FitFlops has addressed the, um, need, for dressier flip flops by coming out with a few new styles more appropriate for wearing when you’re not at the beach.

GenePartner dating service based on genes
Are you still out in the dating scene, hoping to snag the one and only love of your life one day, but have failed to do so despite trying virtually every avenue possible known to man? Well, perhaps it really IS a question about chemistry, and Swiss company GenePartner has released its dating service that brings together both genders based on the correlation of genes that express the HLA (human leukocyte antigen) molecules. The main reason behind this move is because there is concrete evidence that shows ordinary folk tend to choose a partner based on their HLA-dependent odor type. More of the nitty gritty below. The GenePartner project was inspired by a famous study performed by Prof. Dr. (Read the full post about ‘GenePartner dating service based on genes’…)

LG enV2 VX9100 Review - PCMag

Written by admin on Friday, July 25th, 2008 in Gadgets.

PCMag reviews the LG enV2 and writes, “On the back of the enV2 there’s a 2-megapixel camera; I was disappointed, however, in the image quality. Shots were generally overexposed, with white specks even in the blackest areas, resolution was low, and there’s no flash. Video mode takes 320-by-240 movies but strained to reach 15 frames per second.”

Toshiba’s prototype UMPC probably won’t go into production

Toshiba’s prototype UMPC probably won’t go into production
Toshiba is very good at dominating the laptop market, and it looks like they have tried to make a new kind of ultra-mobile personal computer (UMPC).  This particular UMPC features an Atom processor with 64GB of ssd storage.  It has Windows Vista, as well as a GPS.  Not only does it have a lovely silver frame, but a 5.6-inch touchscreen.  As you can see from the picture, the touchscreen allows for an intriguing keyboard for a double-handed interface.  I’ve never really seen anything like it before, but I’m certain that I am wrong.  I mean if it were that innovative, wouldn’t Toshiba put this UMPC prototype into production.
